Overview and History
In 1998, with a goal to help customers elevate mission critical functions in every capacity, Ascent was founded. Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, the company quickly became a leading provider across the full life cycle of mission critical operations.
From design to engineering, construction to operation, Ascent has assembled a team of industry experts to empower customers to reduce risk, optimize spend and gain more control over their environment.
This is a brief history of Ascent…
1998
It all starts here, as founder Phil Horstmann launches Ascent with a goal to help customers manage and maintain mission critical infrastructure.
1999
A year later, Robert Painter, currently President and co-owner of Ascent, joins the team in an engineering and construction management role.
2000
Jamie Lester, currently Vice President of Finance and co-owner of Ascent, comes on board, joining the team in an accounting and administration role.
To support customer demand, Ascent introduces Engineering, Project Management and Construction services.
2004
Ascent opens 24×7 mission critical Operations Center to support clients around the clock.
2005
Brad Pauley, currently Vice President of Engineering & Construction and co-owner of Ascent, joins the team in an engineering and construction management role.
2006
Ascent identifies need for hyper-entitled data center solutions and launches its wholesale data center development program.
2007
Global Cloud Services Provider selects Ascent’s Northlake project CH1, becomes one of the world’s largest data centers.
Ascent grows its in-house construction management team.
2010
Illinois Chamber and Illinois Development Council award Ascent with Edie Award.
Ascent raises substantial equity to fund its second Northlake data center development, CH2 Data Center.
Ascent further expands critical infrastructure operations nationally.
2011
Ascent delivers first custom data center suite for Fortune 100 client at CH2.
2012
A new HQ – Ascent opens new headquarters in St. Louis.
Ascent among Top 10 Private Business Job Creators within Missouri.
2014
Ascent delivers multiple design-build, custom data center suites; Carter Validus Mission Critical REIT purchases CH2 Data Center.
2016
Uptime & Visibility – Ascent launches next generation Navigator Operational Platform.
Texas-bound! Ascent enters Dallas with DAL1 EF5 hardened data center.
2017
Ascent heads south… and north, entering Atlanta and Toronto markets with the acquisition and development of highly entitled, enterprise grade data centers.
2021
Ascent enters into partnership with Stone Point Capital and Lincoln Property Company to further expand Data Center Operational, Engineering and Critical Project Delivery services.
2023
