Expands Data Center with an Additional 2.5 MW of Capacity
Ascent, a leading provider of comprehensive data center solutions, in partnership with Carter Validus Mission Critical REIT, Inc., today announced delivery of a newly constructed expansion suite for an enterprise tenant in the CH2 Data Center facility, based in Northlake, Illinois. The company added capacity for an additional 2.5 MW of critical power capacity in the approximately 16,000 gross square foot suite. Carter Validus Mission Critical REIT, Inc. has owned the facility since 2014.
Within 150 days of breaking ground for construction on the suite, the customer was able to install and power IT equipment in the data center racks. As part of the 250,000 square foot multi-tenant facility, the expansion suite provides the company with dedicated data center space entirely independent from the operations of other customers in the building.
The new suite features power and operational efficiencies such as transmission grade electric feeds from the onsite 2N substation offering up to 54 MW, LED lighting in the data center and highly efficient electrical and mechanical infrastructure equipment. The installation of computer room air handlers with airside economization and a high-pressure humidification system allows for compressor-less cooling low ambient conditions. Additionally, the infrastructure includes air-cooled chillers coupled with an evaporative cooling system designed for more efficient chiller operation. The cost-effective cooling system provides increased efficiency, reducing yearly energy consumption and optimizing the PUE for a low average annual of 1.3.
“Chicago continues to be a major central hub for data centers and our customers require top of the line infrastructure and offerings,” said Phil Horstmann, CEO of Ascent. “Ascent’s innovative engineering and built-to-suit enterprise-level data center spaces provide significant operational efficiencies and cost benefits to our customers. We look forward to continuing to support our clients at CH2 and other sites around the country to meet their data center needs, and meet them quickly.”
In addition to construction developments at CH2, Ascent is kicking off work for production ready racks at the recently opened DAL1, a tornado hardened facility providing the highly secure and scalable data center infrastructure necessary for customers in the Dallas-Fort Worth market.
